Four colleges at the University of Arizona will combine to form the College of Letters and Science under a reorganization effort announced this afternoon.
The new college will combine the Social and Behavioral Sciences College, Humanities College, University College and the College of Science under one large umbrella, according to a UA news release.
The merger is part of a major campus shakeup that UA President Robert Shelton had called for earlier this year.
Under the new college, the four units will still retain their structure, with the science, humanities and social and behavioral sciences retaining deans. It’s not clear whether the University College, which mainly serves as an advising unit, will have a dean.
The deans will then report to an executive dean — Joaquin Ruiz — who will manage all four former colleges, the release said.
