ATLANTIC CITY — The owner of the Bayview Inn & Suites has until Nov. 12 to file paperwork with the city regarding the motel’s future or face imminent demolition.
The motel at 1630 N. Albany Ave., which garnered national headlines in August when an alligator was found in its pool as part of a drug raid, has since had two fires and has been shut down by the city until further notice.
Dale Finch, the city’s director of licensing and inspections, said the owner has to file something “concrete” with the city by Nov. 12 or it will start the process to have the motel demolished.
“We’re not going to let it sit idle,” he said. “It’s a major gateway to the city, and it has to be cleaned up.”
Finch added that something concrete would be a plan to renovate or demolish it and file paperwork to get a license for occupancy.

The Bayview Inn & Suites drew negative headlines after authorities raided it as part of a drug investigation that displaced 33 people. An alligator that had been illegally kept in the motel as a pet escaped and found its way into the pool.
After that incident, the motel caught fire twice. Atlantic City Fire Chief Scott Evans said both fires are “definitely suspicious,” and that the investigation into who may have set them is still ongoing.
