As we look to the summer rains for relief from the heat, we must also understand their potential for destruction. It's hard to think that here, in the desert, flooding could be a concern. But for many households, it's a strong possibility.
Star reporter Dale Quinn wrote this past Sunday (June 13) about Pima County's new flood insurance rate maps, which are awaiting approval from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Search for your house's status
To find out if your property is moving into or out of the flood plain on the new map, go to this website.
Type in the street number or parcel code of the property to view its existing and preliminary flood hazard zone status. There is also a floodplain review map option (choose the "L" Series DFIRM Panel) that lets you see the existing and preliminary views of your property side-by-side on a PDF file.
