Former UA football star Max Zendejas was sentenced to six years probation for his role in damaging a restaurant space he leased from the University of Arizona.
Zendejas, 51, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage in July.
Pima County Superior Court Judge Jane Eikleberry sentenced Zendejas to three years probation for each count in the plea agreement and set the probation terms to run consecutive.
Zendejas operated the restaurant Zendejas 13, 1628 E. Sixth St., a property the university owns.
The Arizona Attorney General’s Office accused him of stripping restaurant equipment from the property after the business closed. The AG’s office said Zendejas took a walk-in refrigerator, HVAC system, compressors, ceiling fans and kitchen sinks worth thousands of dollars.

In addition, the interior and exterior of the property was significantly damaged as a result.
Eikleberry also ordered Zendejas to pay the university $68,000 in restitution.
As part of the plea agreement Zendejas must notify any future employer of clients of his conviction and refrain from gambling.
He will be allowed to serve his probation in Maricopa County where he lives.
As a UA placekicker, Zendajas was named the team’s MVP in 1985.
He holds a school record for most points scored, with 360 for his career, and maintained a 73.8 field goal percentage rate.
Zendejas was drafted to the NFL in 1986 and left the league in 1988.
