The Tucson Police Department said the infant who died after being left in the car may have been there for as long as eight hours.
At about 5:19 p.m. on Tuesday, police responded to a parking lot at a shopping plaza on East Grant Road and North Country Club for a report of an unconscious infant, according to a news release from the department.
At the scene, police found a father and his 7-month-old daughter, who the police identified as Isabel Ledo Herrera.
The Tucson Fire Department was on scene to treat Isabel, but fire department spokesman Barrett Baker said she was already unresponsive when paramedics arrived. She was taken to the University of Arizona Medical center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The Dependent Child Unit is continuing the investigation, the police said. After examining evidence and interviewing the involved family, detectives confirmed that the father was unaware of the baby's presence in the car.
