On the eve of Mother’s Day, Tu Nidito will celebrate five remarkable moms via a Rocket Man tribute at The Remarkable Celebration to benefit Tu Nidito Children & Family Services from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 at El Conquistador Tucson, 10000 N Oracle Rd.
The gala dinner and virtual auction will headline Elton John’s favorite hits as it seeks to raise at least $275,000 for the nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth grieving a death or the diagnosis of a serious medical condition.
“We have this Elton John Tribute Band and it will be really fun. We are telling people to pull out their sequins and boas and come in Elton John-inspired attire, dressed to party,” said Liz McCusker, Executive Director of Tu Nidito.
McCusker credits the 2025 Remarkable Moms — Candace Geary, Liz Rodriguez Miller, Michele Ordoñez, Rhonda Leinberger and Michelle Ruiz — for their support of local children and championship of Tu Nidito’s philosophy that “no child should grieve alone.”

The diverse group encompasses resilient women who have lost parents, spouses and/or children, at times while dealing with serious health diagnoses and treatments themselves or amongst family members.
“We try to find women in the community whose lives exemplify that of a Tu Nidito family ... they have either overcome a death of serious medical condition — or both — or do amazing things for children in our community. Each year we think we will never top this year, but the next year we have 30 nominations for women in the community—some that you may never have heard of—with beautiful, incredible stories that rise to the surface. It is truly remarkable,” McCusker said.
