Two pedestrians were struck, one fatally and the other critically injured, Saturday night on Sabino Canyon Road, the sheriff's department says.
Deputies pronounced Rosendo Ojeda, 73, dead at the scene after the 8 p.m. collision on North Sabino Canyon Road near East Sabino Hollow Court, between East Snyder Road and East Sunrise Drive.
A female pedestrian was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries; her condition as of Sunday was listed as stable and she is expected to survive, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the two while they were crossing the road remained on scene, and was not speeding or impaired at the time of the crash, the sheriff's department said. The driver was not injured.
Evidence suggests a second vehicle, a blue 2002-2006 Toyota Avalon, may have also struck the man in the road and did not remain on scene, the news release said.
