Road work was expected to begin today on Sabino Canyon Road near the intersection at Tanque Verde Road as part of a voter-approved $2.1 billion Regional Transportation Authority plan.
The eastbound curb lane on Tanque Verde Road and the right most left-turn lane on southbound Sabino Canyon Road will be closed for about two months.
However, business access will be available in the area.
Crews will remove drainage basins and construct new ones. A new asphalt roadway will be built from north of the intersection south to Crestline Drive.
New curbs with access ramps, sidewalks, driveways, streetlights and traffic signals will also be built.
The project also includes new median islands, landscaping and irrigation systems, sewer lines and water lines.
