Five people were shot, two fatally, in two separate incidents early Wednesday morning that occurred just blocks apart on the East Side, according to the Buffalo Police Department.
The incidents happened during about a two-hour span within about a half-mile on opposite sides of Broadway, west of Bailey Avenue.
Initial police reports did not say whether the incidents were connected.
The first incident happened just after 12:50 a.m. on Titus Avenue in the city's Genesee-Moselle neighborhood.
A 20-year-old Buffalo man was fatally wounded in the Titus Avenue shooting and was declared dead at Erie County Medical Center, while a 27-year-old Buffalo man was listed in serious condition at ECMC, police said.
Police said the second incident happened just after 3 a.m. when three people were shot, one fatally, in the 100 block of Ashley Street, near the border of the city's Broadway-Fillmore and Lovejoy neighborhoods.

Authorities said a 48-year-old Buffalo man was declared deceased at the scene. A 33-year-old Buffalo man, meanwhile, is listed in critical condition at ECMC and a 36-year-old woman who was struck was treated at ECMC and released, police said.
