Alexis Nunez, 18, had a troubled youth, but in early 2009 he tried to get his life together. He wanted to be a good father to his 2-month-old daughter, Nevaeh-Rae.
The escalation of a days-old argument on April 8, 2009, put an end to his plans for parenthood when Nunez was shot and killed.
Nunez was driving by a bus stop in the 5800 block of South 12th Avenue when he saw the man with whom he'd been arguing, Anibal Cordova, 22.
The two renewed their argument. Cordova phoned two friends, who arrived in a Jeep Cherokee. Cordova reportedly pulled out a handgun, shot Nunez in the back of the head, hopped in the Jeep and drove away.
STATUS
A first-degree murder warrant has been issued for Cordova.
"When the incident first occurred there was information that the family was hiding him," said Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a Tucson Police Department spokesman. "Currently we do not have information that he is being hidden in Tucson."

Cordova is now believed to be living in Mexico, but efforts to find him have been unsuccessful, Pacheco said.
IN THEIR OWN WORDS
Friends and family of Nunez are planning a vigil from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the bus stop where he was killed to mark the first anniversary of his death.
"He's our guardian angel," said his aunt, Christina Serrano. "He was trying to get his life straight," earning his G.E.D. and taking parenting classes.
She does not seek revenge against her nephew's killer, but she wants justice.
"He's out there, and people are hiding him. We want him to pay for what he has done," Serrano said.
"I don't want anybody else to get hurt. If he did it once, he'll do it again. I just want to see him get his day in court."
