The Scrabble players are down to their last tiles. As they contemplate their next word, they sip their beverages and get cozy in the soft leather chairs at Javalinas Coffee & Friends, 9136 E. Valencia Road.
Every Wednesday is family game night at the coffeehouse. On the third Wednesday of the month, there also is live blue- grass music along with the games.
"We do family game night because we are an integral part of the Rita Ranch community and we want to have a night dedicated to families," said Bonnie Vining, Javalinas owner.
"I like to come here to hang out with friends. It's a nice to be somewhere other than school and home to play games with friends," said Meagan Sage, 14.
"It's a calming, soothing environment," chimed in Will Cross, 14.
Will's father, Ed Cross, likes to spend time with the teens at the shop. "They are out of the house and socializing in a safe, comfortable environment," said Ed.

Javalinas has chess, Scrabble, Boggle, The Game of Life, Connect 4, Skip Bo, Mancala, and Catch Phrase. Customers can also bring their own games.
