Choral music lovers, here's an opportunity to attend the fall concert of the Collegium Musicum, an ensemble of some 30 singers that include UA students and community members from in and around Tucson.
The free concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Arizona Senior Academy Building at Academy Village, 13715 E. Langtry Lane.
Each semester the Collegium prepares a choral program of music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Monday's concert will feature works by Heinrich Schutz, Johann Hermann Schein and Samuel Scheidt - composers called "The Three SCHs" of early German Baroque music.
Delightful German Renaissance pieces by Heinrich Isaac, Ludwig Senfl and Melchior Vulpius will be performed as well by a vocal quartet drawn from the Collegium singers.
Highlights of the program include "Cantate Domino" by Schutz and the "Christmas Magnificat" of Scheidt.

The collegium is directed this year by the energetic and dynamic Brent Rogers, a doctoral candidate in choral conducting at the UA. This Minnesota native spent the past two years in Yuma as professor of choral and voice performance at Arizona Western College, and has served as an adjudicator at choral festivals. He received his undergraduate and master's degrees from Brigham Young University.
The accompanist for some of the pieces will be organist Doug Leightenheimer, also a doctoral candidate in choral conducting at the UA. After receiving his undergraduate degree in organ performance, Leightenheimer earned a master's degree in sacred music at Westminster Choir College.
Academy Village is an active-adult community located off Old Spanish Trail six miles southeast of Saguaro National Park East.
Due to the popularity of Academy events and the hall's limited seating, non-members are encouraged to make reservations.
