A Gale Elementary student’s artwork will be featured on a postage stamp as part of the Tucson Birthday Stamp Design Contest.
Seven-year-old Jillian Stachowski won the grand prize for her design paying tribute to Tucson’s 239th birthday. Her watercolor depicts a horned toad wearing a birthday hat facing saguaros topped with flames to represent candles. Purple mountains can be seen in the background.
The stamp can be ordered and purchased at the Postal History Foundation in Tucson for $1.50 per stamp. Proceeds will benefit the Youth Education Thru Stamps program, which provides curriculum based lessons and stamps to teachers throughout Arizona and the country.
The top five winners from three age groups were given awards and prizes. Every student was given Bookmans gift certificates, awards, t-shirts, collectable stamps, and other prizes.
