After six years on the job, Tanque Verde School District Superintendent Doug Price is resigning.
Price will remain with the district through June 30. Tanque Verde human resources director Kim Sharp has been named interim superintendent for the upcoming school year.
Price is leaving to take over the Sacaton Elementary School District, just south of the Phoenix area. The position will allow him to live at home in Gilbert, where his family has been for his entire tenure at Tanque Verde.
“This job is not more than 20 minutes from my home,” Price said of his new position. “Right now, I rent a home here and sometimes get home on the weekends.”
While Price is excited about the change, he says he will miss the Tanque Verde district. Since he became superintendent, enrollment has grown significantly, mostly at the high school level, Price said.

He said he is most proud of the students and their ability to achieve to a level that has made Tanque Verde one of the top districts in the state and his teachers, who “with limited programmatic dollars have done some remarkable work in support of that student achievement.”
Price said he is grateful for the community’s support and willingness to pass an override to help sustain the district’s programming for the nearly 2,000 students enrolled.
The Governing Board will take the next school year to look at the budget and consider whether there will be any more budget implications from the Legislature, Price said. In the meantime, they will apply Price’s salary to both the interim leader and to address other district needs before working to find a permanent replacement.
