St. Philip's Friends of Music presents classical guitarist Philip Hemmo at 7 p.m. Friday in the Music Center at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell Ave.
Hemmo is a prolific performer and has been featured as a soloist across the country. He also has taught guitar at the University of Arizona and Pima College. His textbook "Beginning Classroom Guitar" is in use all over the United States at colleges and universities.
This concert coincides with the release of Hemmo's new CD - "The 20th Century Guitar." The concert will feature 20th century lyric works that show the evolution of the compositional styles for the classical guitar in the last century.
Admission is by donation to St. Philip's Friends of Music (suggested donation $15). All proceeds from this concert will go to St. Philip's After-School Music and Homework Program. The program, in its fourth year, offers high-quality vocal and instrumental training as well as supervised homework sessions and a daily snack to students in grades 3-5 from neighboring schools.
