Mission Road's makeover starts today.
The city is repaving two miles of Mission between Starr Pass Boulevard and Ajo Way.
Crews will do the preliminary utility work this week, then they'll tear up the asphalt and repave the road this weekend. Watch for lane closures and expect delays.
Hundreds of bicyclists will be among the first to enjoy a smooth ride on the new pavement during El Tour de Tucson on Nov. 17, said city Transportation Director Daryl Cole.
The project is part of the city's $20 million Pavement Preservation Program.
Several other roads will get the same mill-and-overlay treatment as Mission during the program.
You can look forward to a pothole-free driving experience on Alvernon Way between 22nd and 29th streets, Broadway between Wilmot and Pantano roads, Craycroft Road between River Road and Glenn Street, and Golf Links Road between Swan and Wilmot roads.

Phase 2, which spans Thornydale to Mona Lisa and includes a 286-foot bridge next to the existing bridge over the wash, should be done next summer, she said.
Soon to be added to the timeline is Phase 3, which runs from La Cañada to Oracle and will go to bid later this year, she said.
Road Q
Question: George Steele is confused about the intersection of Pima Street at Wilmot and Tanque Verde Roads. He wants to know who has the right of way: a driver turning right onto Pima from Tanque Verde or a driver turning left onto Wilmot from Pima to go to Costco.
Answer: The left-turner should wait, said Tucson Police Sgt. Maria Hawke.
The right-turner has a yield sign and doesn't have to make a complete stop before continuing through the intersection, she said.
The left-turner has to make sure the road is clear. Failing to yield while making a left turn at an intersection is a citable offense, Hawke said.
