Several transportation activities are under way in the region you ought to know about.
Here's a roundup:
The Pima Association of Governments plans to conduct its third regional bicycle count Oct. 19, 20 and 21. Planners use data from the count to identify trends in bicycling and locations where improvements may be needed.
Last year's count tracked 9,800 cyclists. During the count, volunteers are dispatched to count in certain locations during specific times, then all the information is collected and analyzed.

DEATHS DOWN
Fatalities are down on Arizona's roadways, according to state transportation data.
The Arizona Department of Transportation announced that deaths on the roadways were at a 16-year low at 807 in 2009. That's 1.29 fatalities for every million miles traveled that year.
State transportation officials credit their efforts to create safer roads and educate drivers, along with help from state law enforcement officials. The department credits specific improvements, including shoulder rumble strips, raised and reflective pavement markers, larger traffic signals and wider lane stripes than are required.
