Figuring out whether your license is acceptable proof of your driving ability in another country is a potential last-minute worry for travelers.
One man doesn't have to worry, though, because his grandfather is doing the groundwork early.
"My grandson will be visiting in December. He has been going to school in Brussels for the past three years and has a driver's license to drive in Belgium. He also had a driver's license in Texas when he was going to school there," wrote Don Meyers.
"My question is, will his foreign driver's license permit him to drive my car or a rental car legally while in Arizona or other states during his visit?"
The driver's license is valid here as long as it is current, said Sgt. Tim Beam, supervisor of the traffic investigations unit at the Tucson Police Department.

He couldn't say whether the license would have anything to do with car rental, because that would be up to the rental car company.
It is probably a good idea to check with the rental car company if the grandson from Brussels is planning to rent a car.

Using the buses
The thought of tackling the bus system for the first time can be intimidating, especially for an older person, someone with a disability or anyone who consistently relies on others for transportation.
Sun Tran is hoping to help break down the wall of worry by offering a half-day training program to help people learn how to navigate the bus system.
Mobility Training Program sessions, the first of which is Tuesday, will help people learn about the bus system and have more confidence in using Sun Tran. It will include Sun Tran buses and drivers, as well as a trainer from Living Independently with Freedom and Equality.
Attendees will be able to learn how to use the wheelchair ramp and mechanical lift and get help with planning trips around town by using the Ride Guide bus service schedule, Braille schedules and more.
The session will run from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Woods Memorial Public Library, 3455 N. First Ave.. Space is limited, so call the LIFE Inc. office at 745-5222 to make a reservation to attend.
RoadQ
Question: "When is the city going to replace the Grant sign at the intersection of Kolb-Grant and Tanque Verde?" wrote Kris Hefton.
She said she was concerned "after visitors to our house became lost after following our directions on how to get onto Grant from westbound Tanque Verde. I later saw that the sign is missing."
Answer: The Tucson Department of Transportation has issued a work order to have the sign replaced, said Michael Graham, spokesman for the department. The new sign needs to be manufactured and the city plans to have it replaced this week, he said.
