There’s a new competitor in the car service scene, and it will likely be listed first in the phone book.
AAA Auto Repair, which is owned and operated by AAA, is expected to open today or Friday in Marana Marketplace, 3870 W. River Road.
The shop provides automobile maintenance and repair, employing nine Automotive Service Excellence-certified technicians. The shop offers free shuttle service to help customers cope with wait times.
The shop’s opening concluded a three-month renovation project that started in June. The 4,000-square-foot facility has eight bays, with the potential to expand to nine.
Like many companies, AAA Arizona keeps tabs on customer satisfaction with surveys.
“Our AAA Auto Repair shops consistently receive high marks from members in regards to satisfaction, so we look forward to being an automotive resource they can turn to,” AAA Arizona spokeswoman Valerie Vinyard said.

John Walter, director of automotive repair for AAA Arizona, said the thinking behind the business model is to give drivers a reliable auto repair option free of upselling and questionable ethics.
“We hold our employees to the highest standards. We have an integrity management system in place where we do random audits, making sure technicians are correctly inspecting vehicles and service advisers are only recommending needed repairs.”
The franchise is expanding after establishing seven Phoenix-area locations. AAA said there are more than 30,000 AAA members on the northwest side.
“We have a pretty high concentration of AAA members in Tucson, and we wanted to be able to serve members and meet their auto repair needs,” Walter said.
The shop is open to everyone. AAA customers receive a 10 percent discount on labor.
Walter said AAA Arizona will consider adding more Southern Arizona locations, depending on how this shop performs.
