Powerful winds are expected across southeastern Arizona beginning Thursday night, with gusts reaching up to 75 mph in some areas, the National Weather Service in Tucson says.
A high wind warning will be in effect from 11 p.m. Thursday through 5 a.m. Saturday for much of southeastern Arizona, including areas near Benson, Sierra Vista, and Willcox. A wind advisory is also in effect for surrounding areas, including portions of Pima County, through 2 p.m. Saturday.
A high wind warning is issued when damaging winds are expected or occurring, while a wind advisory indicates less severe but potentially hazardous conditions.
Areas under the high wind warning could see gusts up to 75 mph, compared with gusts up to 60 mph in areas under the wind advisory, according to the National Weather Service.

The strongest winds are expected immediately west and northwest of higher terrain and in mountain gaps.
The weather service said the unusually strong winds could knock down trees and power poles and create areas of blowing dust. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, while drivers of high-profile vehicles should use caution.
The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has also issued an air quality alert for dust in Cochise County throughout Friday, advising residents to limit intense outdoor physical activity.
Winds are expected to gradually diminish Saturday afternoon, although breezy conditions could continue into the evening.
