A wildfire burning in a remote area along the Arizona-New Mexico border has grown to 5,400 acres.
Officials determined the Guadalupe Fire, burning in Hidalgo County, New Mexico, on Coronado National Forest land, was started by lightning. It was first reported by Border Patrol agents on Tuesday, officials said.
Additional crews have been assigned to the fire, including heavy lift helicopters. There are 272 people fighting the fire.
The fire is burning mainly grass and brush. Several ranch buildings are located near the eastern edge of the fire, which is zero percent contained.
Crews will be working to contain the fire inside defensible terrain, including south of Geronimo Trail, north and west of the Pendleton Ranch and west of Forest Road 4333. The northwest side of the fire is being monitored but is mostly inactive.
