Report: Nebraska Is the Sixth-Hardest-Working State

In general, Americans are hard workers, putting in an average of 1,800 hours per year, according to the World Economic Forum. Nearly half of U.S. workers don't even expect to use all of their allotted vacation days this year.

“It's undeniable that America has fostered a culture of hard work, with people working longer hours than residents of many other developed countries and often leaving vacation time on the table. This incredible work ethic has been a major driver of America's status as the world's biggest economy,” said WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo. “Working hard is commendable, but people in the hardest-working states may need to consider taking a break once in a while, as a lack of leisure time can have a negative impact on their physical and mental health.”

Nebraska is a very hard-working state, but residents are able to save some time on their commutes and still take ample time for themselves.

The state has:

• The second-highest share of workers with multiple jobs, at 8%
• The sixth-highest employment rate, at 97%
• The fifth-shortest average commute time, at 19.2 minutes
• The sixth-most average leisure time per day, at around 6.2 hours

Overall, Nebraska ranks sixth out of the 50 states in WalletHub's study, after factoring in all 10 metrics.
