Lake limits to appeals
Kari Lake has tried every avenue to overturn her loss. The possible reasons for this have been endless. Blaming election offices, members of her own party, even Google for her loss. I think the person she next needs to sue over the election is herself. If she had run as a typical conservative without the Trump craziness, she would have won.

Daily Star’s radically liberal slant
Re: the Sept. 15 article “Ciscomani must stop undermining IRA progress.”
The Daily Star’s total support for the Democrat Party is blatantly obvious to all but those radical liberals who refuse open eyes. Examples?
People are also reading…
Little to no coverage of the horrible effects on homelessness, crime and drug flow caused by Democrats’ open border policy and the associated influx of illegal immigrants into the Tucson area.
Little to no coverage on Tucson’s crumbling roads (I challenge you to find any worse in this country), failing schools, and disintegrating infrastructure caused by Mayor Romero and other local Democrat Party members’ horrendous and outright irresponsible use of tax money.
The Star virtually ignores Conservative viewpoints, yet publishes those such as this article by Priya Sundareshan, attempting to make the false claim that the Inflation Reduction Act is succeeding, based on a convenient small-time selection. In reality, inflation remains sky-high, as we all are reminded every time we purchase goods or pay bills. If your goal is to alienate approximately half of your potential reading base, you are succeeding.

Setting the foundation of fascism
For fascism to be successfully installed in a nation, a foundation must be set in place in which a mature fascist superstructure can later rest upon. The foundation must be built on the smoldering ruins of the existing political system. But it is the fascists themselves that burn the existing system down, claiming that it is so evil and corrupt that it must be destroyed, to usher in the glorious era of fascism. But the dysfunction of the existing system is highly exaggerated via propaganda, which is the hallmark of fascism. The hatred of the old system prepares followers for single-party rule in the future. Facts must be marginalized, while emotion becomes more important in determining truth. Vices like anger, hate and vengeance must be considered normal, while virtues are marginalized. This foundation has already been set in place, for those ready to abandon their striving for democracy. This foundation is what Trump has been selling, disguised as national renewal and patriotism.

Party hopping
Re: the Sept. 17 article “GOP senators met to rebrand ‘pro-life’.”
Even as a pro-life person, I can accept the humor of Alexandra Petri’s satire. Her tongue-in-cheek analysis reveals the conundrum the GOP faces in future elections because of disappointing results in the 2022 midterms. Donald Trump, the 2024 GOP frontrunner, blames the lackluster midterm performance on Republicans being too pro-life. Trump recently criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ 6-week abortion ban. DeSantis is also vying for the White House in 2024.
GOP politicians are caught between a rock and a hard place because of swing voters. That is, independent voters, known to party hop from election to election. Independent voters are a significant voting bloc and could be turned off by hardline anti-abortion policies. But as a citizen, I never have any ethical problem when debating the pro-life merits from conception to birth.

Tucson to crack down on blighted properties
Re: the Sept. 17 article “Tucson to crack down on blighted properties.”
We all want to live in safe, secure, and beautiful neighborhoods. It’s good to see that the city has a renewed interest in furthering this notion through an improved VANS program, an endeavor that long-time Tucson resident and past president of the Palo Verde Neighborhood Association, Ronni Kotwicka, as the article mentions, has worked tirelessly to effect. Homeowners that can’t comply with reasonable rules regarding the upkeep of their properties should be subject to a quicker and enforced resolution process. The livability of our neighborhoods depends on residents’ willingness to get involved and make it what they want it to be — get involved and work with the city to improve your standard of living by “cleaning up” rundown and abandoned properties in your neighborhood.

Biden jeopardizing Americans abroad
Re: the Sept. 19 article “Iran releases Americans.”
President Joe Biden has now paid Iran ransom for five innocent American hostages. Five Iranians were released from U.S. federal prisons previously convicted of crimes. Six billion in frozen assets were released to Iran under the condition that they use it for humanitarian purposes. Although the President of Iran told NBC News that he would not abide by that condition. Under Obama/Biden, plane loads of cash of over $400 million were clandestinely flown at night into the Tehran airport in exchange for hostages. Iran provided Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and trainers to insurgents in Iraq and to the Taliban in Afghanistan that resulted in the deaths and maiming of hundreds of U.S troops. They never have been held accountable for that! Biden released from prison a notorious Russian international arms dealer known as the “Merchant of Death” in exchange for a female basketball player caught with marijuana vaping pipes. Biden’s appeasement and ransom paying for state-held hostages jeopardizes the safety of all Americans traveling and living abroad.

Dogs at the Pops
I am a dog lover who considers what is best for those dependent on me. A dog is much more sensitive to sounds than humans. Even a deaf dog will feel the vibrations, booms, and crowd noise and become agitated. Why would anyone subject their best friend to this obvious stress?
The Tucson Pops Fall concerts in Reid Park are fantastic, but please be considerate of your pet, the orchestra and other concert attendees. Leave your dog in the quiet safety of its home.

Under Biden, there is no border
Since Joe Biden was inaugurated as President in January 2021, there have been about 6 million people who have entered the country illegally at the southwest border. Just last night (Sept. 18), over 2,200 foreign people illegally crossed the Rio Grande River from Piedras Negras, Mexico into Eagle Pass, Texas. Most appeared to be adult males. A video has captured a train at Zacatecas, Mexico, with dozens of open top hopper cars full of foreign people yelling and headed to the border. Last week in Arizona, the Border Patrol apprehended 2,000 foreign people a day. Their processing centers are at over capacity and are releasing people into the public. This is the border under President Biden. It all began with his rhetoric about immigration during the campaign. Rhetoric that many in foreign countries took to mean come to the U.S. Then as President, he immediately issued Executive Orders halting the border wall, the Mexican Protocols, asylum agreements with Central American countries, etc. We see the disastrous results.

Release of hostages
Re: the Sept. 19 article “Iran releases Americans.”
I applaud the safe return of five hostages from Iran through the release of $6 billion of their own sanctioned money. The overriding question, however, seems to be how can we ensure that the ransom will be spent solely for humanitarian purposes? Iran continues to fund any number of terrorist entities. Why should we expect them to suddenly care about their own people’s welfare?
