GREENSBORO, N.C. - Alissa Czisny has won her second title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, skating the performance of a lifetime Saturday night to upstage fellow previous champions Rachael Flatt and Mirai Nagasu.
The title is redemption for Czisny, who knocked herself out of the running for Vancouver with a dismal short program last year, an experience she called a "heartbreak." But there was no disappointment this time, only triumph.
And a little satisfaction, too. With the top three beginning the night separated only by a point, Czisny won in a landslide. She finished with 191.24 points, almost eight ahead of defending champ Flatt. Nagasu was third with 177.26.
Meryl Davis and Charlie White won their third straight dance title earlier in the day.
The Olympic and world silver medalists are in a class by themselves in the United States, and it was plain to see why Saturday afternoon. The steam is still rising from the ice from their fiery tango, which showcased their exquisite edge quality and innovative lifts and spins. The pairs team might want to take note of those spins, because few in either discipline did them as well.

Earlier Saturday, Caitlin Yankowskas and John Coughlin won their first pairs title.

BERN, Switzerland - Sarah Meier has earned an emotional victory in front of her home fans to become the European figure skating champion on Saturday.
Skating what she said would be her farewell performance before retiring, the 26-year-old Swiss claimed her first major title with an error-free performance after all of her rivals fell out of contention.
Meier scored a total of 170.60 points, edging defending champion Carolina Kostner of Italy by just over two points. Kostner, a three-time champion, lost her victory chance with a series of falls in the short program and free skate.
