Aching knees ended Donnell Harris' playing days just three years after he left Arizona.
But there is a part of Harris' basketball career that feels like it is still going: The 1997 season, when Arizona knocked off three No. 1 seeds en route to the NCAA basketball title.
Now working as a chef in Phoenix, Harris would not be allowed to forget the role he played on that team even if he tried. With starting center A.J. Bramlett in foul trouble during the championship game against Kentucky, Harris scored eight points, on 4-for-8 free-throw shooting, with seven rebounds off the bench.
"Every night when I go out somebody always says, ''97!, free throws! '97!' Harris said. "People who don't even know me. It's absolutely crazy. It's the greatest feeling in the world. I was blessed to be around the people that I'm around."

This weekend, Harris is getting a chance to be around them again. Arizona is holding a dinner to honor the 1997 Wildcats tonight at La Paloma and will hold the Lute Olson All-Star Classic game on Sunday at McKale Center.
In the past decade, the 1997 Wildcats have gone in many directions. Some, like Harris, are out of basketball and pursuing other passions. Some are NBA stars. Some are making comfortable careers playing in Europe.
