Sunnyside (1-0) came up with a game-saving interception at the goal line to preserve a 27-21, double-overtime win against Glendale Cactus.
Walden Grove (1-0) spoiled Empire's (0-1) home opener with a thrilling 36-34 victory in triple-overtime.
Things should only get better this week.
On Friday, Catalina Foothills (1-1) will test first-year Cienega coach Pat Nugent in his first home game. THe Bobcats lost their season opener at Chandler Basha last week.
Host Tucson High (1-0) will play Canyon del Oro (0-1) for the first time since 2012, when CDO won 24-21. The Dorados lead the all-time series 18-8.
