A year removed from a winless campaign, Desert View’s football team trailed Phoenix Sierra Linda by 14 points after the first quarter in its season opener on Friday night
The Jaguars could have easily hung their heads, something coach Robert Bonillas mentioned was a bad habit last season.
Instead, Desert View rallied back to win 36-21, snapping a 17-game losing streak.
Bonillas credited the offensive line for its communication, leadership and “trusting the process" in the win, which gave the fourth-year coach his first 1-0 start with the team.
The Jaguars travel to play Catalina on Friday, with a chance to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2010.
