The Arizona Wildcats scored seven runs in the sixth inning to break a tie en route to a 9-3 victory over Oregon State in the opener of a three-game softball series in Corvallis.
The seven-run sixth capped a string of nine unanswered runs over two innings for the Wildcats (29-9, 4-3 Pac-12).
With two outs in the fifth, Kellie Fox hit a two-run homer to tie the game, kick-starting the offense.
In the sixth, Arizona had one on with one out before the next six batters went single, double, walk, double, single and double to break it open. Mandie Perez’s double broke the tie and began the onslaught against OSU (23-12, 4-6).
Arizona’s pitching duo of Michelle Floyd and Trish Parks tossed a combined three-hitter, while joining to strike out six Beavers in the seven innings.
Parks pitched the final three innings and earned the victory to improve to 10-4. She allowed a run and a hit with three strikeouts.
