Startup Tucson and H2H Venture Philanthropy have announced the 10 teams chosen to participate in the inaugural class of Thryve, an intensive business incubator focused on developing high-impact social ventures.
The Thryve program is based on a curriculum derived from courses at Stanford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Arizona. The summer 2014 cohort of Thryve will begin the 10-week program on June 17, organizers said.
The 10 teams, selected from nearly 50 applications, are:
- Access Tucson Community Media, providing community-access cable TV and Web-based media resources, training and distribution;
- Booma Bookmapping Project, a platform to build and share a comprehensive database of geographic information distilled from literature;
- Foresight Community Ventures, providing affordable, sustainable rental properties;
- Hidden Paradox, The Dark Thought Project, offering assessment and psychotherapy training for behavioral health professionals who work with suicidal people;
- Higher Ground Resource Center, providing youth development services and resources for at-risk students and families;
- IMPACTIV, a mobile application that powers philanthropy through fitness by converting exercise to monetary donations;
- Las Milpitas Cultivator Program, providing education, experience and resources in local food production for low-income residents;
- Lia Loka, a social fundraising platform for youth and community-based organizations;
- Merchant’s Garden, delivering fresh produce to local residents who lack access to affordable healthy produce;
- SportKore, a Web-based motivational tool for military veterans who are looking to sustain a healthy lifestyle through fitness.
