Democratic congressional candidate Nate McMurray is on a leave of absence from his employer, Delaware North.
McMurray has worked as assistant general counsel and, most recently, as vice president of business development for the privately owned hospitality and tourism giant.
McMurray told The Buffalo News last week that he was asked to take an unpaid leave of absence from the company through the April 28 special election. He is using accrued vacation time to earn income during the leave.
He said he did not take a leave during his previous congressional run, in 2018, nor during his 2015 race for Grand Island supervisor.
In an interview, and in weekend tweets, McMurray linked the leave to his opponent, State Sen. Chris Jacobs, a member of the family that runs Delaware North.

Delaware North declined last week to comment on McMurray’s status, saying it is a personnel matter. Jacobs said in an interview that he doesn’t have a role with or financial stake in the company.
