Nearly 7,100 votes came in last week for the first round of Caliente’s Happy Hour Madness, which included a few easy wins and a few notable upsets.
Luck was not on the side of sushi restaurants in the first round. Lodge on the Desert beat Sushi Garden by 65 votes, while heavy weight Kon Tiki knocked Yoshimatsu Healthy Japanese out of the competition by 213 votes.
Relative newcomer Agustin Kitchen laid the smack down on McMahon’s Prime Steakhouse by one vote.
And in the battle between upscale versus classic dive, Sullivan’s Steakhouse took down The Buffet — which celebrated its 80th anniversary in October and was dubbed one of the 12 best dive bars in America by Esquire magazine — by 79 votes.
Zona 78 garnered the most votes out of all 32 bars and restaurants, easily defeating Canyon’s Crown. Thunder Canyon Brewery wasn’t too far behind, taking out Thirsty’s Neighborhood Grill.

Other establishments moving on to Round 2 include Harvest Restaurant, Barrio Brewing Co., The Keg Steakhouse and Bar, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Old Pueblo Grille, The Parish, Casa Molina, Tavolino Ristorante, Acacia Real Food & Cocktails and Union Public House.
