Great American Playhouse, the Oro Valley melodrama theater that closed on Monday, was not locked out of it space, according to the Tucson company that does the leasing at the Rancho Vistoso Plaza for the new Scottsdale-based owners.
NAI Horizons, a Tucson property management agency hired by the plaza’s owners, WCCP Rancho Vistoso LLC, was notified by the theater Monday that the business was closed. NAI Horizons then changed the locks at 13005 N. Oracle Road late Monday because they had no keys to the building, said Managing Director Phil Skillings.
“They had already closed down the operation and informed their employees and they were moving their personal belongings out of the building,” he said.
Skillings said NAI was negotiating with the theater to either come up with a payment plan to make good on nearly 18 months of unpaid rent or an orderly transition of the space back to the owner.

Nancy LaViola, who owned the theater, would not comment on Thursday.
Great American Playhouse took up 9,0000 square feet in the former Ike's Farmers Market at the center, 12925-13005 N. Oracle Road. The theater opened in August 2013.
