Much of the Tucson Festival of Books is geared to entertaining kids and their parents and inspiring lifelong reading habits.
The festival is for families with children of all ages, said Peg Hartman and Jaymie Jacobs, who head the book fest’s Children’s/Teens’ committee. The festival is set for Saturday and next Sunday on the University of Arizona campus.
A large, multitent area is like a mini festival within the festival.
“The festival offers a specific area where there are children and teen authors, storybook performances, puppet shows, hands-on activities, musical performances, lots of free resources, free children’s books and food,” Hartman and Jacobs said in an email.
“Books inspire learning, growing, adventure, mystery, humor, love, and imagination,” they said. “It is vitally important to surround children with a culture of literacy, to show them how important books are, and that the adults in their life value books.”

And of course, there will be authors, authors and more authors. There are more than 60 children’s/teens’ authors at the event.
“The Children and Teen author committee works year round to secure amazing authors to come to the festival,” said Hartman and Jacobs.
In addition to its content for kiddos, the festival has plenty of free parking, accessible sidewalks, wide walkways for strollers, security, shady places to sit and rest, and printed schedules of activities suitable for children, Hartman and Jacobs noted.
