Chicken finger nirvana coming next month
There’s going to be some mad chicken frying going on at the corner of Wilmot Road and Broadway.
That’s when Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers will open its first Tucson restaurant. Proceeds from opening day, Nov. 13, will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson, company officials said.
The Tucson location, at 6352 E. Broadway, will be the Louisiana-based company’s 10th Arizona outpost. Nine others are operating in the Phoenix area and another is coming in 2016 to Flagstaff.
Raising Cane’s joins a hot corner of newly constructed fast-casual dining that includes Kneaders Bakery & Cafe, which opened in mid-July at 135 S. Wilmot. A 5,000-square-foot standalone Corner Bakery Cafe is under construction next to Kneaders.

Raising Cane’s menu is centered on the ubiquitous kids’ favorite —chicken fingers—served in baskets, bunches and on sandwiches.
Raising Cane’s will be open from 9 a.m. to midnight daily. It is expected to hire at least 50 people.
Foothills Mall eatery
serving Indian street food
South Indian cuisine has joined the plethora of tacos, pizza, burgers and Chinese food at the Foothills Mall food court.
Dosa Express opened on Sept. 4 in the space that was home to the grilled-cheese restaurant Cheesy Rider. The restaurant is owned by Syamala and James Garnham, who also own three Asian Eyebrow Threading shops including one at the Foothills Mall, 7401 N. La Cholla Blvd.
Syamala Garnham said the couple jumped into the restaurant business because she likes to cook.
“I am from south India. Here in Tucson most (Indian) restaurants serve north Indian” cuisine, she said.
Dosa Express specializes in dosas, Indian crepes made of rice and lentils that are served sweet — filled with fruit, dusted with cinnamon or drizzled with chocolate sauce, then topped with whipped cream — and savory — vegan and meat curries including with potatoes, white cheese, mixed vegetables, chicken and ground turkey. Prices run from $5.99 to $6.99 for sweet, and $4.99 to $7.99 for savory.
Garnham said the dosas are large enough (12 to 14 inches) for a meal and the savory varieties come with a cup of lentil soup and two dipping sauces. On weekends, she serves a savory chicken biriyani plate.
Dosa Express is open during mall hours, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
