After their performance, Svetlana Petkovic and William Gruner, Qtango Argentine tango dancers, speak about their dancing experiences and teaching the "Absolute Beginners" class at the Tucson Tango Festival during an interview on Thursday, March 3.
Petkovic began dancing at age seven and trained in classical dance at Vaganova School of Ballet in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1995 she moved to New Mexico where she met her husband Erskine Maytorena, Qtangos orchestra leader. Presently, when she is not traveling to perform she is a dance instructor.
Gruner, a principal scientist for MZA Associates Corporation, discovered his passion for dance while in college where he studied a variety of dance from ballroom to belly dancing.
The two Albuquerque residents have known each other for several years through the dance community. It wasnt until this past September though that the two became dance partners.
