Who is Conrad J. Storad?
Born in July of 1957 in Barberton, Ohio, Storad began writing at an early age. His writing is unique - he loves writing about science and nature, but he has written about all sorts of things from sports to politics.
His first book, "Saguaro Cactus," was published in 1994. He has written 38 books and has been a professional writer for more than 34 years. I got to meet Storad when he visited my school this year.
Storad was raised in Barberton with his four younger brothers and kid sister. He says his eighth-grade teacher encouraged and inspired him to write.
His favorite book that he has written is "Don't Call Me Pig! A Javelina Story," but he also enjoys reading his new picture book, "Rattlesnake Rules." His favorite book in general is "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway.

He has some new books coming out like "Arizona: Way out West & Wacky." It will be an official book for the Arizona Centennial celebration for 2012. Also there's a six-book science series coming out before summer.
Before he wanted to be an author, he wanted to be a scientist. Conrad went the University of Akron and earned a mass-media communications degree and went on to Arizona State University, where he received a master's degree in science journalism.
Storad has been married to Laurie for 12 years. He has two step-daughters, Sarah and Megan. Conrad and Laurie have five young grandchildren: Eli, Natalie, Logan, Jacob and Bennett.
