Sometimes it seems impossible to take some exotic material off a countertop, table or other work surface without messing up said surface. Recently we suggested Super Glue Remover to take off, well, Super Glue.
We don't know if it worked, but here is what we heard from Gerry from Charlestown, Mass.: "I used Avon's Skin So Soft to remove Super Glue from a granite countertop. It took five to 10 minutes for the oil to work but it did, perfectly. The oil will also remove the nonslip decals from tub bottoms."
This got us thinking about a Skin So Soft story that ran about 10 years ago, as a sort of miracle "stuff" remover. We looked it up in our trusty paper file and came up with this letter, dated 1996, from Louise Riley of Danvers, Mass., who gave us permission to run it again. It makes great reading for the embattled handyman and homeowners.
Wrote Louise: "Avon Skin So Soft is not only a bath oil, moisturizer, makeup remover, suntan oil, massage oil, insect repellent, but it also can be used on your pet for a gleaming coat, relieves itching from insect bites and dry skin. Sponge it on screens and around doors and windows to keep crawling bugs, flies and mosquitoes out.

"It will clean wood, condition and polish natural wood and cut grease and dirt from kitchen cabinets. It removes chewing gum from hair, skin and most nonporous surfaces; removes glue from price tags and labels from glass, metal and plastics. Takes off bandage tape marks on skin, cleans ink from skin, vinyl and painted surfaces.
"It will clean heavy grease and oil from skin and nonporous surfaces; remove soap scum, lime and hard-water deposits from shower doors, shower curtains, windows, fixtures and tile; and remove tar spots from cars. It can be used as an oil lubricant for fitting pipe joints, removes paint and stain from skin, cleans paint brushes and leaves them soft, removes gum from carpets, cuts grease and dirt from range hoods, removes candle wax from furniture, carpeting and clothing, scuff marks from patent leather shoes and Liquid Nails construction adhesive.
"Drizzle down the sides of glasses or bowls stuck together and they will come apart. It removes 'ring round the collar,' cleans the vinyl surfaces of your car and removes smoke odors."
Wow! And thanks again to Louise Riley.
