A ceiling fan can mean the difference between a comfortable night's sleep and freezing yourself with the air conditioner.
Danny Levkowitz, president of Sun Lighting, 4545 E. Broadway, says anyone who can read can put together a fan. He's agreed to take us step-by-step through the process.
Step 1: Kill the power to the area. Flip the breaker or just turn off the switch.
Step 2: Make sure you have a junction box — a metal box that makes fan installation possible. If the house is pre-wired for a fan, it will be there. If not, because the fixture was previously a light only, pick up a box at a hardware store and follow the instructions on the box.
Step 3: Put together the motor. Levkowitz says this varies fan by fan, but he insists that anyone can do it by following the instructions that come with the fan.

Step 4: Screw the bracket into the ceiling.
Step 5: Hang the motor from the bracket.
Step 6: Put the blades together on the floor.
Step 7: To connect the blade to the motor, put one screw in the blade so that the head of the screw will face the floor when you attach the blade. Insert the screwdriver into the screw to hold the screw in place and climb the ladder. Attach the blade; repeat.
Step 8: Turn the power back on.
