Local charities need some last-minute help as they put on their Thanksgiving meals.
The Luz Southside Coalition needs pies, plates, cups, and napkins for its 17th annual Thanksgiving in the Barrio on Tuesday, Nov. 24, said project director Raul Bueno.
Donations can be delivered to the El Pueblo Neighborhood Center at 101 W. Irvington Road, which is also the site of the Thanksgiving meal.
The Gospel Rescue Mission needs turkeys, vegetables, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pies for its 27th Annual Thanksgiving Street Banquet.
The mission expects to serve about 3,000 meals on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Anybody and everybody that needs a meal is welcome to come,” said Pastor Scott Munro.
The Salvation Army is expecting more than 2,000 people to attend its 31st consecutive Thanksgiving event Thursday, Nov. 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The group does not need more volunteers or food donations, but is inviting the public to the meal.
“We welcome any and all to join us,” said spokeswoman Shawna Kroh.
The Luz Southside Coalition also is trying to get a jump on its toy drive. Donations can be dropped off at 25 E. Drachman St. until Dec. 8.
It received 600 toys last year, but that wasn’t enough for each child to receive a toy.
“I want to give toys for all the kids,” Bueno said.
