Tucson Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the person or persons who fatally assaulted a man near Fourth Avenue early Saturday.
Juan Carlos Zuniga, 25, was found unresponsive by a passer by around 1 a.m. suffering from obvious trauma, said Tucson Police homicide Detective Bill Hanson.
Zuniga was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later, police said.
He may have been assaulted by more than one person, but the cause of death was not released to protect the investigation, Hanson said.
Zuniga’s body was found in the 400 block of East Fifth Street — in the same vicinity as the bar North on 4th, Hanson said. It was not clear if he had gone to any of the nearby clubs that night.
A light four-door Crown Victoria was seen leaving the area but police do not know if the occupants were involved, Hanson said.

“We would like to speak with anyone who was in the area and may have seen him,” Hanson said. “If anyone saw or heard an argument, even if they don’t think it’s important, we would like to talk to them.”
The motive for the slaying has not been determined but it doesn’t appear that Zuniga was robbed, Hanson said. Zuniga, a South Side resident, did dry wall work for a local company, Hanson added.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney’s Office.
