The Morgue Lady has been a bit under the weather lately. Her coughing has caused a few colleagues to avoid her desk. It's that leftover cough one sometimes has for a week or more after a cold.
So while she perused microfilm from days gone by, this advertisement caught her attention. From the Arizona Daily star Oct. 2, 1928:
BEWARE THE COUGH FROM COLDS THAT HANG ON
Coughs from colds may lead to serious trouble. You can stop them now with Creomulsion, an emulsified creosote that is pleasant to take. Creomulsion is a medical discovery with two-fold action; it soothes and heals the inflamed membranes and inhibits germ growth.
Of all known drugs creosote is recognized by high medical authorities as one of the greatest healing agencies for coughs from colds and bronchial irritations. Creomulsion contains, in addition to creosote, other healing elements which soothe and heal the inflamed membranes and stop the irritation, while the creosote goes on to the stomach, is absorbed into the blood, attacks the seat of the trouble and checks the growth of the germs.
Creomulsion is guaranteed satisfactory in the treatment of coughs from colds, bronchitis and minor forms of bronchial irritations, and is excellent for building up the system after colds or flu. Money refunded if not relieved after taking according to directions. Ask your druggist. (adv.)

You can still buy Creomulsion. Some things do stand the test of time.
While the Morgue Lady has been unable to find out what the "healing elements" in the original formula were, the current formula has dextromethorphan as its active ingredient. It still contains beechwood creosote and it still advertises that it soothes raw, irritated membranes.
