With the warm weather seemingly here to stay and hikers taking to the trails, the Pima County Sheriff's Department enters into a season that can be dangerous and leads to an increase in search and rescue operations.
The Sheriff's Department averages about 200 search and rescues annually, and although they occur year round, the sunny skies draw residents and visitors outdoor, eager to explore the mountains in and around Tucson.
On Tuesday, Marana police requested the Sheriff helicopter to assist in a search for a missing hiker from the Ritz Carlton resorts, said Sheriff's Department spokesman Deputy Tom Peine.
The woman was located by officers aboard the chopper and rescuers were guided to her. The woman was evaluated for injuries by the Northwest Fire Department, Peine said.
