Guadalajara Original Grill, a restaurant on the north side, was damaged in an early-morning fire Thursday started accidentally by an electrical malfunction.
Fire damage was minimal and mostly confined to a storage room, but the restaurant had smoke damage throughout the building, said Capt. Chris Jurvig, spokesman for the Tucson Fire Department.
The cost of the damage was estimated at $200,000, Jurvig said.
A single call was made to 911 at about 4:40 a.m. reporting the blaze at 1220 E. Prince Road and North Mountain Avenue.
Crews arrived within five minutes and “found a large column of dark smoke and flames coming from the southeast corner of the structure,” Jurvig said.
While firefighters used a gas-powered saw to cut through the locks on the restaurant doors, a ladder company climbed to the roof to cut holes that would vent smoke and heat, Jurvig said.

It took almost 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
In total, 27 firefighters from 10 units responded to the scene.
A message on the Guadalajara Original Grill Facebook page said the restaurant will be closed for an “undetermined time.”
