Planting the seeds for lasting change
With leadership from a generous volunteer and donor, Mark Losleben, who has committed initial funds, the Community Food Bank (CFB) launched a new opportunity to positively impact both our neighbors and our environment into the future. The "Renewable Energy 'Green' Endowment" will strengthen CFB resources and reduce dependence on traditional energy sources.
An endowment is an agreement made between a donor or group of donors and a charitable organization. The donors provide funds with the purpose of growing resources for a particular program or need. The principal funds are invested by the nonprofit, and a percentage of earnings are distributed annually to support the nonprofit in perpetuity.
“The purpose is to provide funds not for food but to cover the costs of energy, freeing up CFB’s resources to serve the mission.” – Mark Losleben

Investing in a greener future
CFB stewards our earth in a variety of ways including solar panels, recycling, composting and water harvesting. As the "Renewable Energy 'Green' Endowment" develops, it will offset operating costs. More funding will be available to support our neighbors, ensuring they can access healthy food and participate in programs that help them thrive.
We anticipate new opportunities to additionally reduce our carbon footprint while investing in renewable energy solutions that support future success. "Green" initiatives will become more affordable, available and efficient. The "Renewable Energy 'Green' Endowment" will provide ongoing financial support to meet future needs for our organization, our neighbors and our earth. In this way, Mark and "Green" Endowment donors will leave a unique legacy to the Community Food Bank.
A volunteer with a vision
Mark is a very special Food Bank volunteer. A huge asset to CFB’s production efforts, almost daily he works a four-hour shift, arriving early and preparing every pallet on the floor so it will be opened and ready before the line begins. During an average shift, Mark and his fellow volunteers assemble 3,000 TEFAP boxes, making sure our neighbors across Southern Arizona receive the food they need.
Mark built a career studying and caring for our planet. His work has taken him around the world from Kilimanjaro to Antarctica. Mark’s lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship fuels his passion for renewable energy, and we’re grateful that he shares this passion with CFB.
Give today, sustain tomorrow
The "Green" Endowment is a new, permanent fund established to receive gifts of any amount from bequests, other estate gifts, gifts of cash, stocks, IRAs and additional giving vehicles.
The Community Food Bank’s goal is to grow this fund to $1 million so that approximately 4% of the value may be distributed annually. This financial support will allow CFB to meet increasing needs with innovative, energy-efficient solutions.
