Applications are now being accepted for the Pima County One-Stop Career Center’s Summer Youth Programs for people ages 14 through 21.
Young people will earn minimum wage and gain experience while working in various positions for Pima County, the city of Tucson, the University of Arizona and several local businesses.
Last year, more than 1,400 youths performed jobs including administrative support, clerking, child care, library page and patient care technician.
Jobs involving outdoor manual labor are available with the Department of Transportation and Regional Wastewater Reclamation. Applicants for the positions will be placed in a special pool and may increase the chances of being selected for a summer job.
The programs also include basic education where young people can earn high school credits in math, reading and writing.

If selected, a person will work between 20 and 40 hours a week for four to seven weeks, depending on the program.
Before beginning work, participants attend a one-day “employability skills” workshop, where they learn about good work habits and employer expectations.
Positions are limited and last year more than 4,500 applications were received. Participants are selected based on their applications, assessment scores and work interests.
