A person died in a house fire Sunday near Mescal, the Pima County Sheriff's Department says. The community is about 40 miles east of Tucson.Â
The Sheriff's Department gave the following account in a news release Monday night:
Deputies from the department's Vail District were called to a house fire in the 15,000 block of South Connor Place, near Mescal, just before 8:30 p.m. Aug. 30.
While en route, deputies were advised that a person might still be inside the home as the fire intensified.
Mescal and Benson fire crews worked for several hours to extinguish the blaze.Â
Once the fire was out, PCSD detectives examined the scene. They found human remains and the remains of a dog in the house, which was heavily damaged and whose roof had collapsed onto the ground floor.
