A rear-end crash killed a 69-year old motorcyclist Friday afternoon as he entered the on-ramp at Aviation Highway, Tucson police said.
According to a Tucson Police Department news release, Nicholas Jeffers was riding his 2018 Indian motorcycle on Golf Links Road. He exited onto the Aviation Highway on-ramp where he struck a stationary 2013 Volkswagen from behind.
Police said the Volkswagen, driven by an 81-year-old man, was stopped in the gore area between two on-ramps when struck.
Jeffers, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The Volkswagen driver was uninjured, police said.
Police said Jeffers’ failure to control his speed and the Volkswagen’s stopping in the roadway were contributing factors in the collision. The driver of the Volkswagen was cited for being positioned in the gore area, police said. The investigation continues.
