Police arrested a driver in connection with a midtown hit-and-run crash Friday night that killed a motorcyclist.
The Tucson Police Department gave the following account in a news release Sunday:
The crash was reported at about 10:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of East Speedway and North Beverly Avenue. First responders found the injured motorcyclist, Michael Robb Ormsby, 53, in the road and took him to a hospital, where he died.
Through witness accounts and physical evidence, police determined that Ormsby, who was not wearing a helmet, was traveling east on Speedway in the middle lane on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. A Ford Mustang was also headed east on Speedway, behind him. The Mustang struck the rear of the motorcycle.
The driver of the Mustang fled in the vehicle before police arrived, but the Mustang was found abandoned about 4 miles away from the crash site.

Nereyda Aneli Garcia, 26, was arrested on suspicion of hit and run causing death and booked into the Pima County Jail where she is being held on a $25,000 bond.
The primary causes of the collision were Garcia’s “excessive speed” and failure to control, police said.
