The body of an 18-year-old Tucson woman was found early Wednesday in an east-side lake, police said.
A person walking at Chuck Ford Lakeside Park, 8300 E. Stella Road, about 5 a.m. saw the body sticking out of the water and called 911, said Officer Charles Rydzak, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.
Officers pulled the woman, identified as Vanessa M. Romero of Tucson, from the water and pronounced her dead at the scene, Rydzak said. The death is being investigated as a homicide because the body had "obvious signs of trauma," he said.
Investigators haven't determined when the woman died, but they assume it happened overnight, Rydzak said.
Police have yet to find any witnesses or develop any information about a suspect. They are looking for anyone who might have been at the lake, which is popular with local fishing enthusiasts, on Tuesday night, Rydzak said.
