Eight freshman girls at Rincon High School were arrested by police Wednesday after a fight in which an administrator was injured.
Some of the girls likely will be charged with disorderly conduct, Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a Tucson Police Department spokesman, said Wednesday.
Assistant Principal Kim Babeu was knocked down trying to break up the fight in the Midtown school's cafeteria, authorities said.
Just who struck the administrator was still under investigation Wednesday afternoon. That student could face an assault charge, Pacheco said.
Babeu was trying to break up the scuffle when she was struck, said Karen Bynum, a Tucson Unified School District spokeswoman.
Babeu, who was named Arizona Teacher of the Year in 2005, was taken to a hospital for observation, Bynum said. None of the students was injured.

Authorities on Wednesday were still trying to find out what prompted the fight at Rincon, 421 N. Arcadia Blvd., near East Broadway and North Swan Road, Bynum said.
A school official called authorities at 10:47 a.m. to report the fight, Pacheco said.
The school was put on lockdown until shortly after noon as police and school safety officials secured the area, Pacheco said.
The fight was an isolated incident in which some otherwise good students made bad choices, said Angela Julien, Rincon High School's principal.
"It was a very typical high school 'she said, she said' type of situation between a couple of girls, and some of their friends decided to join in," Julien said.
The district planned to send a letter home today informing parents of the situation, Julien said. Students were released at 1:35 p.m. Wednesday, and administrators didn't have time to prepare the letter, she said.
The students will be disciplined according to district policy, but those involved in the fight are likely to be suspended, Bynum said.
